Is there anyone here who feels that your vision was fine before being diagnosed, but then after being placed on metformin, or glipizide your vision got blurry? If so, how long before it cleared up.

Yes I had this .. And my vision has returned to normal once my sugar levels were under control

Hi JRios

at diagnosis your blood sugar levels will have been quite high
with taking the metformin and adjusting your diet your blood sugars will have dropped a fair bit in a short space of time.
One of the outward symptoms of this is blurred vision.

If you continue to keep your blood glucose in good control for a while your eyesight should return to normal.
Hard to say exactly how long but as little as a few days or could be a few weeks.

try not to worry in the short term but if it does not improve get to an optician or your GP for a check and some reassurance.

when i was diagnosed i had blurred vision. After My sugar was normal by diet adjustment blurreness gone. Recently i had hbA1c check it is 6.8 without any medicines. However one of my friend is saying that i should have medicine to go more down
what is your advice

I hear that 6.5 or lower is better so your almost there. Continue to exercise everyday for 30 minutes and you have to cut all foods that affect your glucose. But then again I am a newbie so I am going by what I am being told. Thanks for your info.

Thanks for your advice. I already walk for about 20 to 30 minutes three or four times a week. Now thinking to increase this time So that my sugar comes further down.

I had lots of vision problems just before and after diagnosis whilst the medication took effect and still have regular ophthalmology check ups. I found the opticians were very good, as a starter,as they do eye health checks routinely for diabetics and will refer on if needed. Gp is good but not their specialty. I just went to Spec savers who were fantastic, they even have an online help desk:).

Just keep your BG with in target range . get your blood pressure checked ' try not to do heavy lifting when bending . and sometimes if you sneeze a lot it can give you blurred vision .if it persisted go to a optometrist not just a optician..

I would say no meds. hbA1c takes time to drop so as long as your avoiding foods that raise your sugar and just exercise everyday, the numbers will drop.

Hi,

There is a lens inside your eye and when your sugars are all over the shop it swells up!

The lens gets thinner or fatter depending what you are trying to focus on, so you can imagine if it is all swollen it stuggles to do this so your vision won't be particulary good! It can vary from day to day.

As the other say, your vision should stablise after your sugars are controlled.

My vision also changes daily. I sometimes have to wear glasses to read anything at all but other days when my sugar levels are better I can see perfectly.
