Hi all

am suffering terrible blurred vision in this my first week after diagnosis as t1. My consultant said it should steady down soon but it appears to be getting worse. It is especially bad on close up reading like reading text messages and magazines. Is this normal and did any other people suffer this and how long before it clears up.

Thanks

Hi,

Just hold on in there. I was exactly the same! I found it hard to believe that it would just magically disappear...but it does, trust me! As soon as you can start bringing your levels down then your eye sight will return to normal.

Yes - another reason why blood sugar levels need to be brought down reasonably slowly. Certainly according to one author bringing them down too quickly can cause further eye problems.

hya,
it will get better as you get your bloods more stable :D hang on in there

Ok thanks all..will give it a bit longer. I am still get readings of 8.8 in the morning at the moment with nothing to eat from 5 oclock in the evening. My worst time of the day appears to be mid morning with a reading of 17.7 yesterday. This was with only one weetabix for brekkie.

Cheers

Hi Curleous

Hope you're getting to grips with this now!!

As I've mentioned before I'm only 4 months in and was very concerned about my eys as even as blood dropped seemed to be getting worse. It took 6 weeks for mine to be normal so please don't worry but get advice if they're not better after some weeks.

I was told it takes so long because with every drop in BG the lens in your eyes adjusts shape accordingly, so with every drop it adjusts again... (don't know if I was told correctly but seemed to make sense)

I spent 6 weeks wearing my partners glasses and looking quite the fool at work but was cheaper than buying any!! (cheapskate I know but I'd had to buy carb count books etc etc...)

Before long you won't be 8) but back to :D

Hi.
When I first was diagnosed I had terrible blurred vision for about 2 wks and I was very concerned but it magically disappeared. It is so frustrating but u wil get your vision back oncw your levels come down and stablise. Keep trying to get those levels down x

With post-breakfast readings this high, you might want to make sure you're doing things right. The quality of your eye sight isn't going to come back unless you're a lot lower. What's your current regime? Run us through your injections.
