Re: Bm Machine

Its down to personal preference. I like the Bayer Contour next USB meter good clear colour display, easy to use free software to download your results, though I use a mylife pura lancing device with it and BD microfine 0.2 mm lancets. The Bayer lancing device and lancets are pretty good, just I prefer other option. The meter highlights high and low test results in a different colour so you can see at a glance things aren't right. You can also add carbs and insulin on it for your log book info. It also uses a rechargeable battery which you can charge via a PC or order a free mains charger on registering your meter. You can order a different free patterned case for the meter.

I have now managed to get the Accu Check Mobile strips added to my prescription as its also a good meter, especially when out and about. It contains 50 tests on a cassette and the fast clix lancing device (good on the fingers) is attached to the meter or can be unclipped to use it separately. It uses a cassette of 6 lancets again no need to carry bits and pieces around. I found it has a couple of niggles on occasions can get the error not enough blood applied, thus loosing one test. The software to view the results is not as good as Bayers free stuff, Though you can buy the Accu Chek 360 software, I don't know what its like. Once you register the meter you can then choose which style of case you want, either a mobile phone flip type case or a pencil case type case.

Thanks for the reply didn't know I had to register so I just have now getting a canny few free stuff

Re: Bm Machine

I adore my iBG Star monitor that attaches to my iphone. So small and handy, you can record your carb intake and insulin doses on it as well as notes and also when attached to phone - email off the results.

Are there anyway to get test strips without a doctor's script ?

You can buy them in Boots chemist (or in their online shop).

Re: Bm Machine

Some times its a lot cheaper to buy direct from the suppliers if you can, Abbott sell direct and I think they are just over £15 for 50 from reports I have seen.

Re: Bm Machine

Its a control test solution, You apply it to a test strip instead of blood. The result should be within the limits shown on the side of the test strip container. The test solution can be a test of control normal, low or high the solution bottle should state which one you have.

Is acuu check mobile the best you can get ?

I didn't like the first version of the Accu-Chek Mobile and have never gone back, if your self-funding with regards to test strips then the SD Codefree BG meter would be the one to go for, the strips for this meter are around £6 for a box of 50.

Re: Bm Machine

I had a iBG-star - was fine in winter - any higher than ~ 25deg ambient & it'd give continual errors. Took me about 14 goes to get a test result. My fingers were really sore.
I pulled it apart & well, as a professional electronics designer, I'm not impressed with what I saw inside. Hot-melt glue fixing a lithium-cell in? That's unprofessional! Not surprising it hardly works!
Went back to a Medisense. I'm been using an accuchek Aviva for over a year now. (I also worked with the engineer who designed the Aviva's production-test equipment, he's good & he said the Roche Designers were really good engineers too)
NOTE: these comments are more relevant if you're type-1, as we are doing a GREAT MANY (>5 a day) more tests than our type-2 friends!

I'm type 1 as well, using the iBG Star (as I've mentioned already). The temps here have been soaring, well above 25 degrees during the day. I've only once had a problem with the meter saying it's too warm. I got the wee (free) cover they can post out for it shortly after and I've had no problems with temps at all. The cover may just be a coincidence, but thought I'd mention it just in case.
