Dear All

Does anyone know if night sweats (not menopause) are a feature of type 2 diabetes?

Thanks
Mimi

Hi mimi
I am no expert but I do check things out !

This may be of interest:

Hypoglycemia - Sometimes low blood glucose can cause sweating. People who are taking insulin or oral anti-diabetic medications may experience hypoglycemia at night that is accompanied by sweating.

If you think this may relate to you. Discuss with your GP.

Thanks Ken,

I checked my bg at the time and it was 6.7, so don't think it was going too low, maybe just under the weather thinking about it, as today I can't get below a 6 even before meals, which is unusual. Being Ill messes things up as well doesn't it?

You are so right about illness - which also covers Stress ! However there are a lot of things that could be the cause. GP discussion is the best way forward ?

Stress! I'd forgotten that that mucks up blood numbers! In the middle of trying to finalise house sale at the moment and things are getting a bit tense (to say the least). Thanks for the reminder Ken. I'll go an practice some deep breathing

Can be nocturnal hypoglycemia. If you can find the time, try waking yourself up and testing every couple of hours through one night, see how your BG varies

If this is happening in the early hours of the morning it could also be your liver dumping glucose into the system getting ready for a new day.Have you ever tested when this happens to see if your bloods are high or low?

Oposite to me then as I now feel the cold

So do I after losing weight but often wake up around 4 sweating.

I have an extra thick quilt now and even have two in the caravan  Somtimes sleep with the whole lot pulled over my head.

I have tested when waking up really sweaty and find that it doesn't seem to be an oddly high or low number usually in the 6s (i expect it to be higher for some reason), so not sure about it being a glucose dump. I also seem to wake at around the same time 3.15 a.m. Have checked with husband to see if bedroom too warm but he's fine (and annoyed at being woken). Will have to ask GP when I go next. Possibly unconnected to diabetes. I seem to remember something similar when depressed a few years ago, so maybe that's the connection, as the whole deal is really getting to me at the moment.

Thanks for advice
Mimi

Perhaps you should try cutting out things, I used to drink bucket loads of Coffee and my legs used to kick and jump all night. I stopped and only drink bucket loads of de caff tea now and no jumpy legs. Your sweats might be caused by a similar sort of thing?
