bodys not digesting glucophage SR

hya everyone just joined the forum as I seem to be having a problem and advice would be appreciated

I have been on Glucophage SR for about 4 months and before that Metformin 3 times a day

since being on Glucophage I dont have urges to eat and my body is not digesting the tablet it just comes out the other way

chronic loose bowel in the mornings especially during or after my first cup of tea I take one in a morning and one just before I go to bed

have you any advice please as I am concerned I am not getting metformin into my system to help my diabetes

I think it may be that you are not taking the tablets with a meal just with a drink-If you take your morning tablet with water midway through eating your breakfast and then again midway through your evening meal that should hopefully alleviate your problem.
Apparently it is quite normal for the tablet to appear whole the other end but it is just the outer shell-the contents have been absorbed into the system!

Not strictly true. Back when I was taking Gluco SR they used to pass through me whole. The Dr. told me that it was just the shell that passing through. I had a dig around with a toilet brush, and found that it was NOT the shell, th ewhole tablet was still intact, but a little inflated (having absorbed liquid inside my stomach).

The Dr. still inisted that the active ingredients WERE being absorbed into my system while the tablet passed through me.

I was never sure. I'm off Gluco now because of the terrible side effects I was getting. Not nice at all...
