Ok so I never really eat chips but it looks like there is steak and chips on the menu tonight and as a change I quite fancy it. Lets say there's about 60g Carbs in the deeo fried triple cooked chips and with a 1u to 10g ratio 1 shot of 6u of NR just before the meal should do the trick right, rather then pre bolusing due to the fat in the chips?

You can split your bolus for this but you can’t gauge it until the food is in front of you so as to calculate the carb value, also be aware that steak is protein and if it’s a large one you may find a delayed rise later on, I struggle with steak and chips as I always go high during the night so onthe rare time I do have it I tend to wake around 2am and do another bolus then so I can wake in range.

im no expert but myself personally i would just do it b4 my meal which i have done or if its a particular fatty meal i inject about 15 mins later as i say this works for me .but may not work for someone else let us know how you get on and more importantly have a great time and enjoy

So did this last night

Nice 11oz Rib eye with a fried egg on top, chips and spinach.

As i was drinking and levels where stable I thought I'd inject after eating.

Before dinner 7.0
Ate and took 8u NR then....
  • 1hr after dinner 14.8 (this is on the Libre so probably lower in real like)
  • 2hr after dinner 9.9
  • 3hr after dinner 5.4
All this was accompanied by many whiskies, got home at about 1am and levels where 3.8 so had some toast and woke up in range. Sooooo all in al not a 'bad' night apart from the sharp spike for an hour. Whiskies probably helped bring things down.
