I don't know if it's my favourite but Jenny Ruhl's book should not be overlooked. You don't actually have to buy the book if you don't wish to, you can just read this site.

Dr Bernstein's diabetes solution has massively changed (probably saved) my life. I should make it clear that it's about managing, not curing diabetes, as the title could inspire false hope without more explanation!
