Had an interesting conversation with the pharmacist in my local Boots (which offers a diabetes service allegedly) who told me that she had never heard of vat exemptions on metering equipment and supplies for registered diabetics, and that anyone who tests more than twice a week is wasting their time and money.

Does anyone have any info on how we get the vat exemption? Are there forms or something?
 
If you buy strips from Boots online, there is a form to fill in during the checkout to get them VAT free. Boots is an expensive place to buy strips unless they are doing a 3 for the price of 2 deal.
 
Definately worth a good moan, ask fire details of their h.o, that panics them a bit. Would think an organisation such as boots would have their staff trained with this sort of knowledge!

Print the form off or even better the info off the Boots website and take it back to the said Pharmacist .. and see what they have to say? If no joy ask to speak to the manager.. Tell them that they are giving out wrong info! and the pharmacist should be more knowledgeable.
I used to work for Boots many years ago and I know how seriously they take this sort of thing!

I've dealt with her before, and she is the person the other staff all run to whenever I go in and ask for something totally unreasonable like test strips or ketostyx, so my guess is she is either pharmacist or a manager of some type. She is quite pleasant so I don't really want her to get into any trouble personally, but I do think they should make sure their staff are properly informed.
 
Diabetics are entitled to VAT free purchases of essential equipment. This includes shoes. { look at the CosyFeet website!]
As to testing no more that twice a week, that's clearly daft. Are you sure you were speaking to a pharmacist and not just a shop assistant?

Imagine a naïve new type one talking to her for info! Instead of testing several times a day she'd have them testing no more than twice a week?! No matter how pleasant that woman seems, the info she is giving out on diabetes is DANGEROUS and could put someone's life at risk. If she's not up to date on info regarding a condition they are supposed to offer a service for, I dread to think what bad info she's giving out on other conditions.
 
She was aware that I'm type 2, probably not aware that I am on a very high load exercise regime and low carbing so strictly speaking she was just spouting the usual type 2's don't need to test very often rubbish, same as my GP gives hence the reason I have to buy the 2/3 of my test strips.
