Hi, my mother had diabetes type 2, so I'm always on the look out for symptoms. had a blood test a few weeks ago and was told my blood glucose and urea and electrolytes are borderline. Managed to find out the glucose was 5.8, is this normal? As for the urea and electrolytes, I haven't a clue as they didn't give the actual readings.Does diabetes and kidney trouble go hand in hand? I do have a sweet tooth so have cut down dramatically, but have read on here than bananas are a forbidden fruit. Does that go for all sweet fruit, like apples too? Many thanks

Whilst diabetes and kidney trouble do go hand in hand I can't imagine a fasting reading of 5.8 indicating kidney problems. I think you would need to be a lot higher than that before kidney function starts to be affected.

It would be worth trying to get that 5.8 reading down with a combination of diet (check out these forums for plenty of useful information) and exercise and activity.
