I am very borderline type 2 and my doctor does think I will develop it as each year for the last three or four my glucose count has got higher with the fasting blood test, this year 6.9
With this in mind I have read up a lot on web sites and this forum about how people manage their diabetis.
There does seem to be a lot of conflicting views about what is the best foods to eat, most do agree on leaving out white carbs and many say have Bergens Soya and Linseed bread, I have tried this and it is awful it's like eating something you would give a rabbit so I will stick to wholemeal, but when it come to other things I am not sure which is best. Some people say do not eat any root vegetables eat only those that grow above ground, others say eat root veg, some say eat high fat food like red meat, full fat cheese, butter and yogurt for the protein and don't have low fat foods, others say low fat is best so it sounds like a minefield when it comes to food
I am 74 and have raised cholesterol so I take statins doctor says try to stick to low fats I also take medication for high blood pressure. I have always had a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and veg I don't eat red meat just chicken, fish and Quorn. In my younger days there was no such thing as fast food or ready prepared stuff so I never got into the habit of eating those I don't have much of a sweet tooth and I have never been overweight I am just under 9 stone so my doctor says I am not typical for diabetis so it's just one of those things

Hello, you really do not have to be over weight to be t2 I was always under 9 stone then jumped to 13 stone when my blood sugars went very odd.....like you I eat fruit veg and have been a veggie all my life....it really can be one of those things....faulty genes etc.....glad to say I have lost weight now and still loosing since having no sugar!!!!! And of course taking my medication....I was really unwell like so many people before being diagnosed. I do low fat by the way..... Best wishes Kat x
