Hi everyone, I am just writing to tell you all about my Daughter Kelly who has had type1 Diabetes since she was 5 years old.
She has had a terrible problem with hypo's all her life, her control has been erratic, and although sometimes it was her fault other times a million factors could have altered her sugar levels.
She was staying with friends on July 29th this year and went hypo, they were all intoxicated with drink and drugs I expect and thought she was just asleep.
She has ended up with extensive brain damage, she is 33 and I have been told she will probably never come home from hospital, walk talk, or even eat without a drip.
She has a 12 year old son and we are all devastated.

Oh my God, I am so terribly sorry to hear this, my heart goes out to you.
I am type 2 diabetic, so I am lucky, no hypos, but I know many people with diabetes who are insulin dependent and therefore at risk of hypos.
I am hoping and praying that your daughter can recover after all, perhaps its early days still.
Thinking of you, your daughter, your grandson x x

Shocking to read that and my profound sympathies. Once again it points up how evil DM is and how we must never underestimate the danger of a hypo.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this devastating time.

(((hugs)))

hi Kellysmum

My thoughts are with you, Kelly and all the family.

So very sorry to hear about your daughter.
Hypos can be so serious; so many of us struggle in different ways on a daily basis to deal with them as your daughter did.
May you and your family find strength from somewhere to come through this.

That is devastating news and I'm sure will touch a chord with everyone on here, it certainly has with me. I really hope she pulls through ok. A reminder that we must all take extra care of ourselves. Best of luck

Just awful news, thoughts are with you and your family.

My heart goes out to you and the family. Fingers crossed she makes some kind of recovery.

Dear Kellysmum what can I say. I cant imagine what you, as a family, are going through. It must be devastating for you and her son. How is is coping with the terrible news, it must be so hard for him? We are all responsible for our medical conditions, and some like your daughter seems to have found it difficult to cope with and has suffered dire consequencies. Maybe the drugs she took were contaminated with other substances, it does happen or a mixture of the both alcohol and drugs.
I would like to send you my heartfelt best wishes to you and your family at this devastating time. RRB XX

I'm really sorry to hear about your daughter. Thank you for sharing, though. It's an awful story to hear, but I hope that it can at least help one other person. It's scary to think that a hypo can have such devastating effects.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that the doctors are wrong when they say that they don't think she will come home.

Sending best wishes to you and your family. Stay strong. Em x

This is a tragic story and kind of puts all problems in perspective...
My thoughts are with you and your family

So sorry to hear your story but thank you so much for sharing it. By doing so I am sure that you will shock at least 1 person into taking better care of themselves.. Sending you hugs.

that's dreaful!
i feel for that poor child. And he rest of the family too. My own daughter[thankfully not diabetic] is exactly that age. Don't give up hope though. It is awful, but doctors have got things wrong before and the human spirit is strong. She has a child to love!

My heart goes out to her and all of you.

All I would say is don't give up! I have been in several both hypo and hyper induce comas and have managed to pull through. Best of luck to her! I do hope she makes it through.

Hi

My heart goes out to you - keep strong.

Many years ago l worked with a lady who was Type 1 and had frequent episodes of going into a coma (usually during the night).
She was one of the most down to earth people you were ever likely to come cross and just accepted whatever came her way. Although there were times when it got her down, she carried on.

I know everyone is different and l hope your daughter makes a recovery, my thoughts are with you and her son.

Take care

I am so sorry to hear this kellysmum I have had type 1 for a long time with erratic blood sugars and a hell of a lot of insulin comas. I consider myself lucky that I married someone who has kept me alive and taken alot of abuse for it. I think general education on diabetes needs to be stepped up it's not just jab and eat and your ok. I have known diabetics who have died from lack of education in the general public and themselves. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
