O.K, so I'm probably attempting to answer 3 questions in one here but they are all linked so here goes.........

I have taken the plunge literally recently and started going swimming once a week with my partner (I have also recently begun doing 30 minutes brisk walking every other day the rest of the week). It's all being going really well, I've lost 6 pounds and I feel very fit! But, now this only appears to happen when I do my exercise early in the mornings, but the 30 minute exercise is sending my BS higher. It can be 6 at start and 7.6 after. I figured that I should eat something as I do get dawn phenomemnon. So, I tried yoghurt, seeds and berries- this had better results than a slice of peanut butter on burgen toast. I have not yet tried going on an empty stomach. We swim for about an hour on and off, then go for 15 minute sauna. Now I have noticed that diabetics should not use sauna - why is this? When I do it like this, I generally feel rough so I know something is not right but I am not yet sure why this rise is happening, am very confused. I seem to be ok when do exercise after proper meals, later in the day

Could someone please shed some light on what would be best to have for brekkie before a session and should I refrain from the sauna? What type of exercise is best to keep BG stable?
Many thanks, I look forward to reading your replies.

The sauna this is not recommended as the heat makes us more sensitive to insulin and can lead to hypo. I regularly sauna though and never had a problem. As for exercise, there is no best one unfortunately. As a rule, it's the intensity that affects BG levels differently. Steady, low intensity cardio generally lowers BG whilst intense or competitive sport tends to raise levels. Again, this is for the majority and there will be exceptions. Regarding what to eat, that's trial and error really. I would keep a diary of what I ate and when I worked out and eventually you may find the right food to match the best time to workout. Hope this answers a few of your points. Well done on your progress though
