Trying to eventually get back to low carb regime. But recently had setback blood sugars very high. Managed to get
Diabetic Nurse appointment various blood tests done, I also
have under active thyroid.
Also going to be put on metformin should be seeing GP mid
June. Coping with Gliclazide had the dosage upped, my problem is that once taken pills with water you have to eat.
Breakfast now that's always been problematic but I have no choice at the moment and I cannot go low carb as I did before well not at the moment.

So looking for a very easy early morning 7am to 8am
solution. If I tried a very low granola say Alpen with milk, thought could I have slice toast with nut butter. Even Cottage Cheese. Because I am tackling getting lots of meds to try and get used to it's been a challenge. It's only breakfast evening meal not a problem.
When my blood sugars were reasonable I still had higher
readings think was dawn phenomenon. So I would have coffee and wait. Currently cannot do that as Gliclazide you have to eat. Not great with eggs can manage them as an evening meal struggle to eat early. Any help suggestions welcomed.

Based on personal experience, Gliclazide can cause hypos, but it all depends on your individual context. I took maximum dose of Gliclazide just before bed way after my last meal and then first thing in the morning without having any food until lunch. As my blood glucose was way out of control, none of this mattered too much. Within weeks of starting low carb, I first had to reduce and then completely stop Gliclazide as it was pushing me into the hypo territory. While I'm a proponent of choice of how you treat your long-term conditions, I'd recommend discussing your treatment changes with your healthcare team. Unless you fully understand how different drugs work, interact with other treatments (including your diet), and you are closely monitoring how your body responds to any change in your approach, Gliclazide is one of those medications you need to be careful with.

When I was in Gliclizide twice a day I low carbed but at about 20 -25g carb breakfast & evening meal (when I took my tablets) and about 10g lunch. If I didn’t eat within 20minutes I would hypo, also if my carbs weren’t enough.

I wouldn’t have my breakfast right away though usually about an hour after getting up I would take my first tab then eat. It’s a long while ago now and can’t think what I used to eat. I know I used the burgen linseed bread which was about 11g carb a slice with some bacon or eggs or cheese

Be very careful not eating with the Gliclizide you can have serious hypos I remember one of 2.2 which was horrendous. Try to match your carbs to the glic. How I did it was I tested first bite then 2 hrs after if I’d had a rise of more than 2 then I reduced my carbs by 5g next meal. It took me about 2 weeks to find my sweet spot of 25g carb

I’ve been off the Gliclizide since 2019 as I wanted to see if I could be diet controlled. How I did that with the support of my GP was gradually reduced the Gliclizide along with carbs until I’m now 20g carb or less a day, basically keto
