I have type 2 and take 2X1000mg, slow release Metformin after breakfast, During the week this is just after 5am. In some of the threads I've noticed people commenting on not eating first thing and actually benifitting from this. As I don't feel like eating that early and only do it because I thought it was good for my condition I was wondering if many people had positive experiences of not eating for several hours first thing in the morning. The tablets should last for 24 hours regardless of when I take them, which is much later at the weekend anyway.

I gave up breakfast when I was diagnosed and have hardly eaten it since then..
I credit the extended fasting period alongside a pretty strict LCHF diet with getting control of my blood sugar levels.
Also helped with the weight loss. That of course is just my experience but I think that quite a lot of other people here have found it helps quite a lot.

Thank you for that. I've never had a problem with Metformin but I think that the extended fasting, as a norm, rather than just the weekends worth trying.

Metformin has to be taken with food though ? I take mine in the evening maybe that would suit you better if you don't want breakfast ?

I don't take Metformin but I do fast from immediately after evening meal through to the following lunch time other than a coffee with lots of cream as soon as I get out of bed. Other than that, just water and the odd cup of tea mid morning. I have found it helps my morning levels from getting up to lunch time and gives me significantly better levels pre-lunch.

Makes absolute perfect sense to fast through the time when insulin resistance is at its highest.....

I often wondered when I was younger why I could never face food first thing in the morning, I would end up feeling sick and blurry eyesight, so have always fasted through to lunch.

All makes sense now, I think I've had glucose tolerance issues most of my adult life.

Me too, my glucose tolerance post meal is still pretty good, it's my fasting level which is letting me down and I think I have had IFG for a long time.

Does it??? Is that the case with the slow release?? Not been told that and only discussed it with my GP on Tuesday when she added MORE meds to help slow my heartbeat before major surgery early next month.

I take mine all at night - immediately before bed - but that is generally only just over a couple of hours after eating - as I start early in the mornings

Mine says to take one Metformin tablet twice a day with food. So it does not have be with breakfast although I take one then.

The other one I take in the evening with dinner.
