The best breakfast for a type 2 diabetic is protein, fat, and no carbs. Eat protein first and some fats. Eggs and bangers, yogurt with fresh fruit and/or nuts, etc. I have low carb yogurt with nuts, and once in a while a rough cut oatmeal with cinnamon and no sugar. With most type 2s your blood sugar is highest in the AM before eating. Wheat bread, pancakes, waffles, cereals, or juices will spike your blood sugar to the moon. I tried Starbucks new rough cut oatmeal with nuts and fresh blueberries, cinnamon, no sugar, and had only a modest rise in blood sugar. A good breakfast drink for diabetics is decaf coffee with a teaspoon of cinnamon, with half and half. Why? Coffee, even decaf, has been found to contain more antioxidants than any other commonly eaten food. Cinnamon increases glucose metabolism 20 times, or 2,000%. A substance found in only full fat dairy products called trans-palmitoleic acid reduces risk of type 2 diabetes by up to 60%.
