Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi
I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer, I am ok with it. But as I am type 2 diabetic as well wondered if anyone has any tips as to questions that I should be asking. The cancer seems to be a priority but I am concerned that no one is taking into account that I am diabetic. What complications could there be? Any replies would be helpful. Thanks
Peggy

I am so sorry to read about your cancer diagnosis. I don't really know much about cancer and diabetes except that some chemotherapy causes higher bg levels. You need to discuss with your treatment team.
I do know though that a low carb diet is recommended because cancer cells feed on glucose.
Some time ago I posted a link to some low carb recipes from the Mannheim University hospital but its all in German there is some info and explanation on why a low carb diet is highly advisable. But if you Google cancer and low carb you will find many links in our language. If you like I can ask my sister to translate from the German hospital as well, just let me know.
This is obviously a worrying time for you so get support from wherever you can, don't be shy.
Look into complementary therapy too eg some people find expressing their thoughts through painting very helpful or visual therapy where you would imagine the tumor to be some ugly creature and some pretty fairies or whatever else come gently floating along nibbling away at the horrible creature until it is no more.
I guess these ideas sound quite silly but I have it on good authority that doing something along those lines helps many patients feel empowered and confident whereas others don't find it doesn't appeal at all.
I wish you all the very best and a quick recovery.
Sending healing comforting thoughts x x
