yippeeeee, i have at long last receieved a 'choose & book' letter to get back into a diabetes clinic.

i live in weston-super-mare and after moving here in '07 attended the clinic @weston general hospital. then got referred to southmead in bristol for pre-conception clinic & subsequent pregnancy care in 09. was 'discharged' from them after my baby girl was born, and have since been trying (not v hard at times) to get back 'into the system', at last my most recent 'chase' worked, and got the choose & book letter FINALLY!

got a choice:

-weston hospital (local, convenient but maybe a bit 'behind', not running a pump clinic as yet)
-southmead, bristol (when i was attending before pregnancy it seemed that the clinic was bursting at the seams? maybe they all are...)
-frenchay, bristol (no nothing about this...but probably the furthest away form me)
-bristol royal infirmary (in city centre, easy to get to for me, hubby works nearby) a 'university' hospital...seem to be on the cutting edge of diabetic 'stuff' and run the biggest pump clinic in the south west

does anyone have any specific experience of these clinics? i'm inclined to try & get into the BRI clinic, my number one dream at the mo is to get onto a pump and it seems like it would be more possible here? being a university hosp, does that mean more up to date info? i have all sorts of concerns at the mo, would a university hosp be more inclined/disposed to examine & investigate my worries or would it be the same as any other clinic?

all opinions & experience welcome! many thanks

Can't offer any recommendations but pleased you've back into the diabetes clinic :)

No idea about the Bristol ones, sorry.....but I was at Weston Gen on Tuesday for a non-diabetes related appointment and thought it was definitely a bit, erm, in need of a facelift shall we say :|

thanks noblehead, i'm quite excited at the prospect...i'm weird!

sooliz - yes, the WGH is a bit tired isn't it! think i might go for the BRI, few more miles, but hopefully only now & again. they seem on the cutting edge.

if no one has specific exp of BRI, does anyone have any opinions on whether university hospitals are better in terms of diabetes care/knowledge/access of new info etc.

BRI is on INPUT's list for 'pro-active' pump clinics...decision made!

still wld love to hear from anyone who goes to BRI
