hi,
I have always been on a 70/30 mix of insulin (Humilin 70/30 - I have tried Lantus and similar but they always have a diverse effect (either sugars too low or too high)
my problem is this: At night (normally when I eat less than in the day) my sugars tend to shoot through the roof. I am on a very high dose of insulin (dont be shocked). I am not very active (unfortunately) but still this does not make sense:
Let me give an example my sugars were 158 before going to bed (I never have evening snacks) I ate 3 or 4 hours before going to bed... in the morning my sugars were 286 - This happens regularly. I took 54units of insulin and had two slices of wholemeal toast ... please tell me that is NOT normal.
Last night I had a low 71 at 2.30 so I ate a plum and had a bombom (very small) this morning sugars 259
Mornings I take around 54 units and have breakfast and lunch and my sugars dont go as crazy as in the night - in fact they are lower
My sugars react crazily to temperature health mood and exercise, but ever since I have had diabetes they have NEVER been stable
I am wondering if there is a better therapy to use its the pm regime that doesnt make sense.
Am also wondering if the effects of the insulin are wearing out too quickly thus increasing the sugar level (ie pm injection between 5 and 7 am injection between 7 and 10) wondering if I make it strict 12 hours apart it would be better. It never used to be that bad so that is why I am wondering if there is a better therapy (then I can discuss it more with the doctor here)
