Was managing ok then pain on the Wed was unbearable. Got new painkillers on Thursday and nurse said too loose. Whole arm aches. Pins and needles yesterday and able to slide plaster down to knuckles by Friday afternoon. Unable to sleep yesterday. Arm achy till early afternoon. Then pins and needles. Now swollen so cast fitting at mo but when you look in mirror you can see difference in arm sizes. Am keeping an eye and if it gets any tighter then will go up hospital. So sorry to hear this, breaks are quite as shock to the system. They can also be very diffrent .. The wife has broken her wrist a few times now, each diffrent .. Some times if your wrist is very swollen, and then that swelling reduces the cast will become loose .. The main thing is to keep it supported .. If it's becomming swolen again keep your arm accross your chest with your hand resting on the opposite shoulder .. This will help the fluid in your arm to drain away. If your fingers start to look discoloured.. Blueish .. Or very white or very dark then get back to the hospital ... ASAP ...
Did they set your wrist under anaesthetic.. Or was it just X Ray then plaster room ... The wife says it should only need over the counter painkillers .. So something not sounding to good .. Have you a fabric sling .. And is it adjusted correctly ?
If worried then get the doctor involved .. They should see your arm /cask then if need be can talk to the hospital for you.
The 6 weeks in the plaster is the easy bit
Thanks ... yes I think she is .. But .. If you see her art work you may change your mindOw ow ow @Scandichic
So sorry to hear this.
Hope it gets sorted ASAP.
@Enclave your wife really is a gem, isn't she?
last Saturday I broke my wrist. I had a back slab put on. By next day, whole thing very loose so back up A&E for new one. On Monday, full cast. By Tuesday very loose. Back up A&E and assured that this was the norm. In such pain Wednesday, that contacted doc for pain killers. Within 2 hours felt very dizzy and sick. Rang doc and asked for different ones. Was told not necessary and to reduce quantity. Assured this would work but didn't. Very sick and dizzy. Got new ones next day and asked nurse about cast. Said too loose and told to ring plaster room. They told me to come in next morning. Replaster d and immediately said it felt loose. Told fine. Lots of movement by Friday afternoon and pins and needles all day Saturday. Woke up in early hours and whole arm ached and couldn't sleep. Finally fell asleep at 5am. Arm achy all day and now swelling. Started with pins and needles again. Waste of time going up hospital as will be told to ring plaster room in morning. Was able to slide cast down to knuckles earlier today and could get whole hand in at top of plaster. Signed off work for 2 weeks and work less than impressed. Fed up!
