I suggest you do some reading on the new research that has been emerging on the (lack of) connection between dietary fat and cholesterol levels.
There are some articles on the bloodsugar101 website (see link in my signature) which explain things clearly.
You will also find MANY members of this forum who have found that their blood cholesterol levels fall after changing their diet to avoid low fat foods, while increasing things like butter, cream, cheese, fats and oils.
I realise that this contradicts 'conventional wisdom' and often contradicts doctors' dietary advice - but that just demonstrates how little dietary knowledge the average doc has!
you will find that you will have better lipids on low carb

Eijack - Many of us thought that way at the outset, but many, many have discovered that it is (bizarrely) carbs, and genetics, that impact cholesterol more than dietary fat. There are some excellent presentations on the internet which explain this phenomenon very well, which I can post a link to, if you would be interested.
I know it's a leap of faith, but I would urge you to give the alternatives a try and see what happens to your numbers.
Edited to add: Actually Jack has just posted a link to an excellent presentation.
My cholesterol was 5.6 and I ate the low fat alternatives however since cutting carbs I have been eating the full fat versions like butter, whole milk and full fat yoghurts. I also came off of statins due to side effects and at my last test my cholesterol was down to 4.2. For me it was a case of getting out of the mindset that all fats are bad when they are not.
