BS levels and Flucloxacillin

I have googled the question but there is no definitive answer. The consensus appears to be if you are on antibiotics for an infection, the infection itself would be the cause of BS variations.

Unbeknown to me I have had a soft tissue infection for a few weeks. This has not appeared to have caused problems with my readings, so just wondering what the antibiotics will do to the readings?

I have no idea, but would have thought it more important to get rid of a harmful infection than to worry about your scores for a week or so. That said, I wouldn't like to make it an excuse to pig out on carb-tastic comfort food.

Me too!!
Last week put on doxycycline for 2 weeks and also to start Fluconazole for 2 weeks yesterday.
Since starting the 1st antibiotics levels have plummeted.
If these don't work then I have to have steroids...-and these I don't want.
Fighting off lower levels now and dropped all my insulin, bolus and basals by at least a 1/3rd so far!!-but perhaps they are just ckearing out the infection I have had for 6 months!!

I think the only thing to do is to read side affects and keep testing, testing, testing....and in my case lowering, lowering, lowering!!

In my case 3 weeks of strong antibiotics my kick my body into fighting infections... I am hoping so, and will put up with anything to avoid steroids!!

I am type 2 diabetic I am on same antibiotics as you for a toe infection.
Since been on them my sugars have gone high.
This morning woke up even before a drink I used my meter to check was 15.1 yesterday all day between 11.5 & 18.9
I have been threatened with insulin before because of high readings.
It does not seem to matter what I do at moment readings high.
I was going to find out from my diabetic friends could antibiotics play sugars up but no one seems to know at moment. Have a good day everyone.xxx

Rang doctors yesterday because I am on same antibiotic as you as sugars were over 15.6. He rang me back last night he said he was not to worried if they went 22. Or over then I had to ring straight back. But I said to him is it the antibiotics & I was told it was not antibiotics but the infection playing up the sugar.hope this helps

From what I've been told, the infection will blow the a*** off your reading (medical term, I'm told) and the possible effects of antibiotics are offset against fighting an infection.
I was told to cut my insulin (both) and adjust my bolus calculations.
Also told to drink loads and rest.
