Been told by diabetes nurse that I could try buildup drinks to help gain weight. I'm 7st 1 and classed as underweight, very thin, bones showing.

I've tried complan but tasted horrible and gave me bad stomach pains. Is there anything else I could try?

Have you calculated how many calories a day you typically eat?

Alex, I think you may just need to experiment a bit. Some people find a lot of milk makes their bowel movements very loose, which you obviously don't need at the moment, so see how you go.

In your shoes, I might be tempted to make it up as I went along, just adding some double cream to stews, soups or the like to riches them, but with less lactose than regular milk.

You can also add cream cheese to casseroles, which richness them up. Cream if chicken, or tomato soup, with extra cream.

But only you know what you can face.

I don't know how tall you are, but unless you're a pocket rocket, a bit like myself, you're going to be at a very slim starting point.

Was anything in addition to the suits-up drinks suggested?
