L5 S1 I think....it sounds familiar and I am sure that's what came up on my xray before I had the MRI lolbetween L4 L5 OR L5 S1.....pick the one that sounds familiar
Oh my that's crazy! Are you having the op? I dont even know how i got mine! I dont recall hurting my back.Mine are cervical (neck) I think I recall 2, worse on left - C5/6 confirmed on MRI - falling off horses...
Some lower back pain, but no xrays or MRI yet so no idea if also lumbar discs!
3...oh blimey poor her!My daughter has had 3! For one she had an injection, which worked. The second one she had an operation and again for the third. The ops were a year apart, almost to the week. She had the third op as an emergency, which we were told very few people have, planned surgery is always better. Her third one was L5 S1. Unfortunately it is an inherited condition in her case, my oh and one of his sisters have had discs removed too.
Good luck if you have the op.
OH had L4/L5, L5/L6 L6/S1 so two herniated and one ruptured - not nice, he couldn't move, had the ruptured one trimmed. unfortunately they can't plate it as its over all three, plus arthritis, plus stenosis. So basically he is stuffed, which he finds very frustrating. He still manages to do quite a lot, but has to everything slower and must carry less weight, so if he has to do any lifting it has to be broken down into smaller bits. Unfortunately once your back is damaged you have to look after it - permanently - makes you realise how easy it is to damage yourself.
Nicola,
They only thing the ever mentioned about my scoliosis is that it is mild so shouldn't effect it :S So I have no clue! xNicola,
It may be that as you suffer from scoliosis as well as sciatica that the pressure on your spinal cord may have some bearing on why your sciatic nerve is being compressed. Was it mentioned?
Just a thought.
Noooo don't do that. My oh went to one before he had his op, and although we felt that it kept him moving the consultant said it could have resulted in the prolapsed disc he had, pressing on the spinal cord nerves resulting in permanent damage. As it was after his op he was (and still is) fine. The only other thing you could try would be a good oesteopath or physio, but you would need to know, and have confidence in the fact that they are really good on backs. Unfortunately there are probably 9 average or poor ones, to one good one. If you find a good one, hang on to them as they are like gold dust.
I didn't know at the time that I had damaged my neck, symptoms developed later. Fortunately didn't need surgery. But had extensive physio, including traction. What really helped was learning Pilates which has completely changed my posture and how I lift and carry heavy objects. I don't have the most flexible neck, but am pretty much pain free.Oh my that's crazy! Are you having the op? I dont even know how i got mine! I dont recall hurting my back.
I agree with you lol! Like they said to me "seeing as you are so young, your options are injections and surgery" and they seemed to be pushing towards the surgery idea more! I have had physio and if anything has made me worse....but then again could that have been because they thought they was dealing with just a muscle problem!! Although the first one I saw thought it was all to do with me having tight hamstrings and then the second one said it was muscular and obviously my nerves! I dont even know ha! I JUST WANT TO BE PAIN FREE lol and to live like a 20year old should!! xNoooo don't do that. I know a lot of people swear by alternative methods, but in these cases I don't think it is advisable. I do think they are excellent for other back problems though.
Since 2005?! How are you still going on lol?xI do, L5 S1 since July 2005. Can't have surgery as I care for my parents but hope to have it shaved one day. Hate back ache.
