Does anyone know if BUPA will cover the cost of an insulin pump for someone who does not have diabetes as an exclusion or pre-existing condition in their policy? I see they state that chronic illnesses are not covered, so wondering if anyone has an insulin pump paid for by BUPA.
A chronic illness is a disease or disorder of slow progression and long duration which causes continuous or episodic periods of incapacity. Examples of chronic illnesses are arthritis, asthma, chronic heart disease, chronic bronchitis, HIV and diabetes.
This is something that you would have to ask the insurers as they might put their own definition on it. The above is from just one site with a definition of a chronic illness.
As I am sure you are aware most insurers like to find any reason to avoid paying out if they can ! Discuss it direct with the Insurer's BUPA and before doing so go through your policy with a fine tooth comb.
