Butter dish

Anybody got any suggestions for a butter dish that will keep butter at a temperature that is spreadable. I keep forgetting to get it out of the fridge. I remember years ago that MIL had something suitable.
 
We have a glass butter dish and had it for many a year now, we keep it in the kitchen cupboard rather than the fridge so that it spreads more easily, most places sell butter dishes so you should be spoilt for choice.
 
lots on amazon, also all of the super markets have them (but more expensive). Do a search on google
 
I like the old fashioned earthenware ones, glazed inside but not outside so that, kept damp , evaporation cools it!
 
I remember seeing one that had a water chamber or something, to keep it cool, but not cold... Haven't seen one for years!
 
I've always had ceramic butter dishes and normally keep my butter out of the fridge - so at room temperature. If the weather's cold, and the butter's a bit hard then I'll give it a little warm up in the microwave. You can get insulated butter dishes, but I've always assumed they're to keep the butter cooler! I think Lakeland have them.

I need a butter dish because cold butter cracks crackers! I keep butter in the fridge, but not the half-pack or so in current use. I keep that in a ceramic dish with a lid on the counter. It doesn't get too soft, no heat waves here. Neither does it go off, because I eat it first.
 
See - two of us have the same cheap practical solution!

Searched high and low for a butter dish in my town without success but got a glass one from The Range for 2.79 www.therange.co.uk

I buy unsalted (they do salted too) organic Sainsbury's own brand butter 1.60 for 250g which is cheaper than some brands - 20p cheaper than Anchor, for example, which no longer comes from New Zealand.

Butter freezes well, so I take advantage of any offers e.g. Rachel's organic unsalted butter 250g 3 for £4 i.e. £1.33 each currently at Ocado.

Got a terracotta one in Dunelm. When the weather is hot, remember that, if I put cold water on the cover it keeps the butter cool inside. I dare not go into The Range I spend far too much money, all the mirrors in my house come from there.Thank you all for your help.
 
Mine is from Lakeland and is a stainless steel insulated one, quite expensive at £19.99 but I did have £10 of vouchers. I tend to cut my blocks into 3 and put them out when I need them, that way they dn't get a chance to go "off". I prob would use a whole block in a week so it's a way of keeping it fresher. (and I still want to call it Lakeland Plastics!)
 
Now I think of it I have seen an electric one which keeps butter at a set temperature, but rather expensive solution. The sort of thing cheffy celebs would have
 
Good idea to cut butter into sections, now why didn't I think of that. A full pack is a lot to have out for one person, thanks Chris will do that
 
My lidded butter dish is a white ceramic one shaped like a cow. I call her Ethyl (after my favourite dairy farmer). It's not fancy, but it's cat-proof.
