Butterfly and Diabetes?

Been diagnosed diabetic relatively recently - Dec 2013. I just noticed that the butterfly shape and outline seems related to diabetes.

Its on my BG test strip supplier, it features in my clinics logo - a few members here use a butterfly logo as there avatar?

Stupid question - Whats the connection / history?

The symbol of diabetes UK and also of the International Diabetes federation is actually a hummingbird .http://www.idf.org/idf-logos
more recently the blue circle has been used as a symbol for diabetes http://www.idf.org/bluecircle

Abbott uses a butterfly as the symbol for their products http://myfreestyle.com.au/about-us/freestyle-story/

However, the butterfly is often used as a symbol for thyroid conditions because the thyroid is butterfly shaped.
