Hi All
I am diabetic as a result of chronic pancreatitis (CP). I have been taking metformin for around 5 years and it is likely, though not certain, I will need insulin as the condition progresses.
I have recently been experiencing what I can only describe as 'buzzing head' which is like having a lot of bees in my head - not the sound more the feeling. It doesn't make me dizzy though I do feel as though my movements are exaggerated - others tell me they aren't.
Because of the CP, which means I have impaired glucagon production as well as impaired insulin production, my consultant likes me to keep my BGs slightly higher than normal to reduce the risk of severe hypos. It does feel like a hypo or at least the start of a hypo (I had a couple last summer when doing stuff in the garden and in the past I've started to get hypo feelings when my BG gets into the low 6s and high 5s) but this isn't always matched by my BGs - I don't test every time but they have varied from 4.9 to 12.1 so nothing spectacular. My latest HbA1c (February) was 7 which is my usual winter HbA1c (usually 7.3 in summer).
Eyes are ok, ears are ok (though I do have tinnitus which started at the same time as I started taking Metformin). I've switched to the slow release Metformin but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
I'm convinced it is something to do with my diabetes as sometimes this feeling comes on while I eat and sometimes it starts to ease while I eat.
I'd appreciate any thoughts / ideas you have before I go back to my GP and / or consultant.
Thanks in advance
Andy
