Hi
I am new to the forum and have joined as i wanted to find out peoples experiences of taking Byetta along with insulin.
Both myself and my husband has diabetes type 2.
My husband currently takes oral medication and injects insulin. He is has huge weight issues and is really trying so hard to lose weight but with no avail ( we have been on the same diet and i have lost 18kg). Ideally husband really wants a gastric bypass, but he needs to lose 10% (which is 28kg)of his bodyweight first, before he is put forward for the op. No matter how he tries the weight refuses to shift.
Now his consulant is trying him on Byetta, but he has to stay on his insulin too.He is hoping that the Byetta will help with the weight.
Does anyone on here take both Byetta and insulin and if so what should be expect.
I am worried about the side effects for him,but he is really pinning his hopes on this helping him lose weight,is this likely if he is still taking insulin.
Thanks for your help

Hello Denise

Some 2 years ago I went on to Byetta and over the course of 15 months lost 14 kilos in weight. However, unfortuantely my blood sugar numbers refused to come down enough so I was taken off the Byetta and put on to insulin (humalog 25) which I take with breakfast and evening meal. Almost overnight I gained most of the 14 kilos of weight which I had lost whilst taking Byetta and in April this year my Consultant put me back on to Byetta alongside the insulin in an attempt to help me lose the weight - so far, no good!! but my HbA1C has come down to 7%. I am still trying hard but not winning at the moment!! I have reduced the insulin since being on both drugs and I am also still taking Metformin.

Jude
