Hi everyone and a belated Happy New Year :D Sorry I have not been back- what with Christmas, a nasty reaction to the swine flu jab and a stomach virus over the new Year, it has been a busy few weeks! Just wanted to report back on my first official blood test since starting Byetta 4 months ago. My HBA1C levels pre byetta were 10.1 and are now 7.1. My nurse is delighted and so am I. She tells me that a non-diabetic would be around 6.5 and that she is more than happy if I stick at my new lever, provided this is not just an average of very high lows and highs - which it isn't- my blood sugar readings are between 5.5 and 7.9 most of the time. She also agreed that as my weigh gradually comes down (note I say when not if!!!) this could come down a tad but probably not dramatically. My weight stayed the same this time but we both agree that that is not bad considering I normally balloon over the festive period- once I get off track it is so hard not to pick. I don't find the the loss of appetite I had with Byetta is quite so strong but I do still find I can not eat the big meals I used to have so a bit of will power boosted by this fact should hopefully help the weight to come down again. Before I go, just one question, I see from other posters that some of you have much lower levels than I have and that your medics have expectations of lowering the HBA1C to much less than mine now is at 7.1 -in fact I believe I have seen posts where a level this high can spark a panic amongst the doctors! Can someone explain this for me - is it a case of the older you are and or the more overweight you are, the optimum level varies as they take into account your whole personal circumstances?
