My husband a type 2 for around 7 years was told by his GP that his insulin producing cells were depleting and that he needed to lose 4 stone to avoid going on insulin , husband came back with a prescription for an 'appetite suppressant '' in injectable form . as he is petrified of injections and tbh has enough will power not to need one , so didnt collect the prescription
I started googling , found this site and its advice to cut carbs , which we have done , his BS levels are in the 6's most of the time , hes lost almost 1 stone
To day he had a follow up appointment and wanted me to come in with him , tbh that makes sense , we all must come out of appointments and think 'what did they say?'
The GP was obviously not happy I was there , he asked the OH why he was there , err because you wanted to see me?
Husband passed over his diary of BS readings and blood pressure readings
GP unhappy that husband hadnt been taking the Byetta ..............I recognised the name from her , husband adamant the gp had told him it was an appetite suppressant and hadnt mentioned it was a diabetes treatment
GP also said he ( and other diabetics) only needed 500 calories a day to live on and he would get all his vitamins and minerals from salad . I asked is this the newcastle diet , he snapped back and said no its DR ( insert his name ) diet , and he said he was the DR here
On the plus side he was happy for low to nil carbs , said it would reduce the BS levels , but not stop the ongoing damage to the insulin producing cells , drastic weight loss I assume would ?
Sorry for the long winded tale , but I am interested in the role of Byetta , does it repair the cells ? what reasons are others taking it for
I wish I had asked for the readings from his last tests , but I dont think the GP would have welcomed it !
I might check if our health insurance would cover a referral , just so we could speak to someone who would be happy to explain the whys and where fors
