I had a recent c-peptide test, came back 0,3 nmol/L with a FBG of 6.1... this result came after a 13hr fast, not your typical 8hrs.
I follow a low carb approach, around 40g per day, have done for years.
By the time I had the sample collected, 13hrs had passed from my last meal. Was not taking insulin at the time or any other diabetic drugs. Just used my own approach.
Because I have CFRD (Cystic fibrosis related diabetes) it is common for older individuals to have their pancreas eventually fail to meet insulin needs. CFRD basically means you inherit problems associated with both T1 and T2. Not enough insulin produced and high sugar levels.
I have maintained a HBA1c of 5.9 for the last 4 years.
I'm curious as to does the result mean, yep, your pancreas has retired and shut up shop and only open for business for a few hrs.. Or is this to be expected with a low carb diet, exercise, walking everyday and weight training?
Being there was no food present during the fast period, I wouldn't expect a c-peptide to be high with a low FBG result?
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
