So finally after a couple of years I've managed to get a c-peptide. My glucose control has deteriorated quite a bit this year. After an infection and urinary ketones I was assessed by diabetes nurse specialist as needing mealtime insulin. It's been going really well and has completely changed things so very happy about that!
She also booked me in for c-peptide as I've never had one and this is where I am now super confused And left wondering if I should be taking insulin at all!
Results:
732pmol/l c-peptide with BG of 15mmol
Previous GAD positive 37 (weakly positive) around 18 months ago.
Admittedly I'd had breakfast literally 1.5 hours before test - muesli which would definitely be carb heavy. So I'm guessing the result reflects my max capacity to make insulin. So good I'm still making good amount of insulin but still not sure if this will be a result to help with what type I am.
NB BMI 21.7 - active person but sedentary job and no other metabolic markers or diabetes in my family.
Like others on here the uncertainty continues or maybe I am missing something! Hopefully an appointment soon will clarify.
Happy new year to all and thanks for reading!
