Hi I had a cpeptide blood test privately but the results mean nothing to me I was wondering if anyone could help me understand them it was 1974.0 and I can't find anything with these sort of numbers in or what measures they are in the notes said residual I am on mdi many thanks tizzy

Hi. c-peptide results are a black art and no one uses the same units - weird. I had the same problem when I had mine done and it transpires that the 'normal' range is 1.1 to 4.4 although even this range varies. I think you need to divide your number by 1000 to get the right units. If I'm right then you are within range. I was 1.19 and knew I had low insulin and a year or so later went onto MDI.

Hi thank you for your reply I think I wasted my money because I didn't read the small print and had not fasted .when you say in range does that mean I have enough of my own insulin. I'm told I'm 1.5 and on basal bonus I personally think I have none of my own short term insulin but some of the long term in me if that makes sense tizzy

I've seen articles that say it's not really clear whether it should be fasting or not although I fasted for mine. You may have got a bad result thru not fasting. At the end of the day if you need to use Basal/Bolus then your insulin levels will be low. It really doesn't matter how low as you just take enough insulin to control BS. My insulin needs have increased over the last few years since starting insulin (honeymoon period) which implies my c-peptide would now be lower.
