Can anyone explain this?

Having had my best day ever since starting the LCHF way of eating (7.3) average I got on with cooking out lamb feast for friends.

7.1 was my last test after lunch. I spent about an hour in the kitchen cooking veg etc etc (1500 steps in that time according to my Fitbit- we have a very long fridge-sink-cooker triangle)

We sit down to eat and lo and behold my starting BG is 9.1!!! I have not nibbled, licked fingers or tasted a morsel since lunchtime.

Up to 10.6 two hours later so not too bad a rise but this has really jiggered up what was going to be a good day :-(

Rant over - any ideas why this happened?

liver dump... Your body is trying to keep you at the level it is currently used to.. In a few weeks your baseline will be lower. My body happily keeps me at between 4.8 and 5.2 now.

I didn't realise the liver could dump during the day as well as at night! So all the extra activity of cooking upset it? Need to have words with it ...

Edited to correct iPad's spelling and weird grammar ...

I wouldn't say upset it. I just did what came naturally. Unfortunately your pancreas just isn't as efficient.

I can have sometimes large rises if I don't eat during the day, especially if I am busy. It took over 6 months of VLC for my liver to chill out so to speak. I still get dumps but they are much smaller and my baseline is now much lower. Give it time, it will happen for you.

Well my BG is now back down to 7.3 four hours after eating so that's pretty good - I shall just have to let my liver and pancreas catch up :-)

When I did a lot of testing, I found that sometimes when I came home from work and tested, I would be really quite low for me, sub 4.2. I do the cooking and I often wonder if just the act of preparing food is enough to trigger a dump as come before meal time it could be into the 5's and I hadn't eaten a thing....
Then again it might just be the natural flow....
Adjusting to a new diet can take a long time for things to settle down.
Had lamb fricassee tonight with broccoli and an avocado salad and a glass of red wine.

Thanks - makes sense :-)

5hr lamb, broccoli, cauli, cabbage, three round carrot pieces, leeks in cream and 50 ml gravy - followed by a few berries swimming in cream and washed down with a glass of red for me :-)
