Yep! That's the way to do it! Nurse it down gently and gradually. Never be tempted to wack in a load of insulin in frustration with blood sugars that seem slow to react to insulin. Your body is still getting used to the new way of dealing with blood sugar. You will soon get used to what makes your sugars go up and how to manage them but it takes time and patience.

It is early days for you, just remember that your initial aim is to get your levels down to between 4 and 8.
Dont rush in to this, as that too if brought back to normal levels too quickly can take adjusting to.
You need to carrry on your life and to tell the health people what foods and likes you have, what 1 hour walks you have etc.. Telling them about your current habits and lifestyle wtc will give them more info to establish how they can bring your levels down safely etc..
