Hi, diagnosed with type 2 just over year ago and given metformin - with the usual hideous side effects for the first 10 weeks!!!!! Eventually settled and felt great until Dec 09 when metformin increased due to Hb1ac being 9 (i think) more hideous than before and after 12 weeks of diarrhoea gave up. Spoke with GP who put me onto the SR version which I take 1g of every evening with my meal at 7.30pm ish but before that point - lets vomit and continue to have some diarrhoea, obviously not as bad as before. I was thinking of maybe splitting the dose and taking 500mg Met SR in the morning and again in the evening to see if this settles it, any ideas?? Have the added problem that I am a shift worker and some shifts are 6pm to midnight and others are 8pm to 8.30am. Am fed up with snapping at hubby and children (they don't deserve stroppy.com) because am peeved with the whole thing and feeling hideous at work. Am usually very active, my job very active, dance several times per week, used to ride my bike on 22 mile round trips and loved now almost too much effort. Has anyone had similar probs and have seen light at end of tunnel. Would rather gain control with metformin as know it is one of the better orals out there. If anyone can help would be so so grateful. Thanks
