I am a T2 diabetic on medication taking plenty of medicine : Janumet 1000/50 twice daily , Diamicron 30 once in the morning, Metformin 500 after lunch . In addition, I am taking some herbal medicine like Cnamon powder, Fenugreek seeds . Walking 30 min daily. With all these I have noticed much improvement of my sugar level for about last 3 weeks (now my daily average is within the range of 5.6 to 6.00 ,including fasting sugar bellow 7.00 , two hours after meal close to 7.00 or even less .
I am not in a position to consult my family doctor (earlier than mid December) because of my current location and get advice from him. Though I understand, it would not be a correct thing to do ,but I am thinking of dropping Metformin and Diamicron from my daily intake of medication and to stay with Janumet alone ( as I was before 6 months ago).
What do you think? Anybody in a position to advise? Would it be a big risk to reduce the medication and monitor for a week or more whether this change makes any difference?

I was told right away by my nurse and consultant that I seemed sensible and reasonably knowledgeable on my treatment so I could adjust my own doses and when I was having issues with poor control with my old insulin I was allowed to go away research and choose what medication I wanted and all I had to do was let the consultant know and if she thought it was sensible she would authorise the doctor to prescribe it.

I also know someone else who was not allowed to adjust doses without seeking advice first and got a major moan when they did self adjust

So I think it's a decision only you can make, if you do then monitor your bloods well for atleast a few days

Hi @Kaha,

One of the forum rules is that we do not give medical advice.
REMEMBER: we do not give medical advice. If you give advice then it is through your own experience or a link to a reputable site external to the forum.

This is a decision that you will have to make.

I agree with the others that it must be your own decision.

However I think that since you feel the need to ask, you're not sure whether it's the right thing to do and want some approval to go ahead - which to my mind means you should wait until you can see your regular doctor to discuss this.

Thanks all for your valuable advice . Of course the decision we take is at our own judgement . I agree with Searley`s comment that we know our body and treatment as most knowledgeable and sensible person who might know ourselves much better than others. I met a number of Doctors who has so little time to attend the patients . In many occasions I had to remind my doctors to prescribe tests, refer to specialists etc... With a huge number of patients they see on a daily basis we may not always expect to get the very correct and timely advice all the time.
