Hi,

last month I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and doctor advice me to take metformin 1000 mg,after a month i did diabetes test and result came to me as a surprise.

before break-fast - 90
after break-fast (1.5 hours ) 72

from the above result can i stop taking the Metformin is this mean my blood sugar level is like normal..

No-one here will ever suggest you drop (or increase) your meds without appropriate (and approved) advice from your GP.

Yes you could stop it, but please don't without the OK from your medical team.

In any event, you'd want to do a LOT more testing before jumping to such an early conclusion. One month (I would have thought) is insufficient

Thanks Mike, sure make sense, will take advice from the Doctor and post the details.

My doctor agreed for me to drop from 4 tablets a day to 3 at the start of this year after I had managed to get my HbA1C down from 71 to 42. Hopefully a few more good results will reduce it further. Be patient, prove that you can control your BS levels and hopefully your doctor will drop your prescription as well.

Are you overweight at all? If so, metformin could help you to reduce your insulin resistance and it would be worth thinking about continuing to take it for a while longer.
