Hi All,

I was diagnosed last week and just lost my interest in food. So I dropped carbs immediately (I like to eat lo carb anyway and it suits me) but also just started eating a lot less, partly wanting to give my poor pancreas a break, partly because I felt put off by food.

So all is good - BG really does seem to be going down (I'm getting 13s and 12s and I've now got a couple of 10s and a 9 today). And I 'm eating quite hefty roast chicken pieces, nice big Greek yogurts, enough protein I think and a balanced diet - fish/other protein sources, lots of veggies, loads of all kinds of salad, a few strawberries, eggs. But it's a lot less than before. I really don't feel hungry.

This isn't too fast, is it ? No common picture about people cutting right back and then hitting a difficulty?

I am asking a lot of questions on the forum. But that's because I'd really, really appreciate knowing what others have found!

55, three daughters inc a dread teen, diagnosed last week T2 with fasting BS at 16, on lo carb + exx + Metformin 2g/day, currently 1g/day

I wouldn't worry so much for now because it takes alot of getting used to etc and alot to get everything right, but it looks like you are doing everything okay! I don't know too much because I am a T1! Good luck though :) x

I cut back quickly and seemed fine. I have had a couple of minor problems, mainly to do with the meds I'm on. My evening Gliclazide worked too well and I was getting low blood sugars during the night. I spoke to my diabetic nurse and have now cut back one of my Gliclazide tablets and that seems fine. I also got the runs. I'm not sure if that was the Metformin being able to work now my blood sugars weren't too high for it to do any good, or it was low carbs. I've always eaten a lot of veg, but I'm not sure what taking bread etc out of the equation might do. Last week, 5 weeks in, I had what I think was 'carb flu'. I didn't get it earlier like people describe, but i felt rubbish last week with heart palpitations. My BS were fine, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't hypos. This week I've upped the carbs a bit and have not had any problems at all.
