Can you tell us where you got the quote?Ive just been told I’m pre diabetic at hba1c 43. I was over weight at 12 stone and have lost almost 2 stone since January - thats about 2lbs a week - but i have cheated at times. Ive also just been told i also have high cholesterol at 7.7 and a high hdl at 2. Has anyone else experienced this? Ive just read this:
‘Weight loss can cause your LDL cholesterol levels to go up temporarily, which can in turn cause your total cholesterol value to go up. HDL cholesterol levels tend to go down as the release of fatty acids in your blood causes an increase in LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, another type of blood lipid implicated in blood disease. The sudden influx of fatty acids into your bloodstream can temporarily cause other problems like insulin resistance, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure, too.’
My hdl isnt low though.
I just wondered if anybody had been affected like this through dieting - the insulin resistance and high blood sugar?

Weight loss is likely to increase the fat levels in your blood because you are losing weight by using up fat for energy. So much the same as eating a high fat diet, I suppose,
I wouldn't expect burning fat to increade insulin resistance. If you burn fat from around your internal organs then this decreases insulin resistance.
Equally I wouldn't expect your blood glucose to go up. Normally it goes down as the weight drops off, as the insulin resistance goes down.
Paging @daisy1 for the welcome pack.
Hi redrickshaw. I was diagnosed Type 2 last May and have lost nearly 5 1/2 stone since then by eating low carb, moderate fat. I lost the first four stone in 6 months and yes my total cholesterol went up. However since my weight loss has slowed down although my total cholesterol stayed the same the numbers within the total improved, ie HDL went up while LDL and triglycerides went down. During this time my blood sugars went down backed up with my last 3 HbA1cs being at non diabetic levels. Plus my blood pressure has come down enough to come off one of two blood pressure medications I was on.
I found the info on a site called Canada drug pharmacy. Why weight loss can make your cholesterol levels go up
