My GP suggested I try Victoza as a way to help with weight loss and start a plan to wean off Lantus. My latest A1c was 7.7 and I wonder if other type 1s have tried this regimen. I've been on insulin for 30 years and am reluctant to mess with my basal/quick-acting combo but menopause and low thyroid have slowed my metabolism. Thanks
Did yor GP forget you were T1?
It happens, GP's see much more T2's than T1's, and once you've reached an age where T2 becomes a common condition they can easily forget they're not dealing with T2.
Not using a basal insulin can get you into DKA real quick. I would definitely want to speak to an endo before trying to wean off insulin.
Can it be possible the GP meant reducing your Lantus, and not completely stopping it? That would be a possibility.
If your thyroid is under-active, surely your thyroid hormone levels should be corrected with tablets ? Have you been prescribed Levothyroxine ? Unless thyroid levels are correct, almost everything else is affected.

Putting on weight (with no change of diet ) is always a good reason to check thyroid hormones are not too low. I know this from my own experience.
