My g.p. Convinced me to take simvastatin, he said it would reduce my chance of a stroke or heart attack by 20%! My cholesterol total was 6.1 at the end of December, and my ratio 6.6 I have fibromyalgia, and find that I get a reaction to pretty much any meds., my gp wanted me to go onto 40mg straight away, but after reading the leaflet in the box , I got back in touch as it just didn't seem to make sense (for my circumstances) to be taking them at all. He convinced me, as I said... but I said that if I was going to take these tablets, I would feel happier starting on the lowest dose of 10mg. So glad I did too.. my pain levels shot up, and I felt like my leg muscles especially, were so much more sore! I have however, continued with them. I am due to see my gp on the 11th Feb., and hopefully he'll ask me to go back for a blood test. I have been eating a fairly low carb diet 100 carbs/day along with a bit more exercise than usual and plant sterols each day. I am hoping that this has had some positive effect on my cholesterol levels. I really want to come off these tabs., certainly don't want to have to increase the dose!
