Thankyou. I just had a phone call from the doctors and had to have another blood test. Now im panicking.

I dont have a very good diet. Im trying to lose weight but finding it very difficult

Firstly don't panic.

As a T2 I restrict my carb intake. I had a very high number at the start. I went keto less than 20g carbs per day. I was concentrating on getting my numbers down not weight. The weight loss was a byproduct. The beauty of keto I found, once you get through carb addiction, your appetite plummets. I had to be reminded to eat.

I think the fact that your Dad is now t2 is also really worrying you. You've seen what he has had to change or cope with and that's worrying. My mum and various relatives on that side had t2 so I was mentally prepared for it but it still gets a lot of getting used to.

Your blood sugar wasnt very high (7.2 is in normal range, 8.5 only a bit high) at the points that you took it but I'm glad you are seeing the dr again as its important that you find out one way or the other. Many of your symptoms are those which I had before diagnosis but they can also be symptoms of anxiety for example.

Weight gain can also be a symptom of t2 and I found it impossible to lose weight before going low carb. Then it came off far more easily.
If you are t2 then you can find ways to manage it with Low carb and this is a great place to find out info to help you.

Hi. Yes, those readings are pretty normal but if you reduce the carbs in your diet you will both lose weight and avoid becoming T2.

Hi & Welcome - don't panic, relax and breathe - to me those readings don't sound too bad but they are just random readings which don't mean too much - wait to hear from your Dr and then come back and ask all the questions you have. Take care.

I have had bloods taken yesterday. Glucose fasting test. I bought a blood testing kit out if interest. Yesterday i felt awful and my heart was going mad. My blood was 8.4.
This morning waking up i tested first thing and was 7.2 before food.
Does this sound normal or shouldni expect something to show up in the blood tests from the doc?

Blood glucose target ranges are:

4mmol/L to 7 mmol/L before a meal
Less than 9mmol/L 2hours after a meal

Obviously for someone using insulin like myself my targets are a bit different as I like them to be slightly higher to avoid hypoglycaemia. You are not on any medication I assume? For someone not on any medication generally the lower blood glucose the better as long as it’s not below 3.9mmol/L
