Hi, some 20 years ago I was injured in an accident, well 2 actually. The first being a back injury and the second sort of as a result of the first burnt. I am in pain most of the time and carry morphine with me in case it has a bad turn!! now it has been suggested to me that if I take cannabis, not smoked due to health risk of smoking and I HATE smoking and the smell of, but as say in a cake, or as a tea that it may do me good. I have also been told that the diabetes is possibly a shock reaction to the being burnt.
If the diebetes is due to either the being burnt or the back injury how can I find out.
Further, the pill that has been derived from cannabis for neuropathy is it likely to help my pain.
Ideas people please.
A bit of diabetic background, I was diagnosed at some 4 years after the accident, some 15+ years ago, my father was a diabetic, we think my G/father may have been. When diagnosed I was at top of overweight, and realise that the injuries do not encourage excersise, the opposite in fact. I am now just in the obese category but only about 2 kilos more than 15 years ago.

Hi there, not sure if you are T1 or T2? T1 can be caused by a range of things, including viruses, so it may be possible that the huge physical stress of your injuries was involved, if you have T1. T2 takes years to develop and seems to have a genetic component in most cases. There may be some information at Blood Sugar 101 that can help you solve this puzzle.

There have been some studies on the pain relief properties of cannabis and it appears to provide moderate pain relief but not as much as other drugs such as morphine. However, it's probably worth a try for you if legal where you live, in case it helps. One of the problems with using cannabis medically is that the component that causes psychotropic effects (getting stoned) is hard to separate out from the component that relieves pain. So people may need to be stoned all the time to get enough pain relief. Personally I would rather use opioids, but each to their own.
