Cannot take metformin what next ?

Hi. I had similar problems until recently in controlling my sugars with all the tablets and low-carbing (below 150gm/day). As you can't have all the tablets and your sugars are still high even with low'ish carbing your choices are limited like they were for me. I finally managed to get my GP to agree to insulin and I wouldn't go back. So, if the tablets and diet don't do they job then do discuss insulin with your GP. Mine said initially that it was a last resort but that's just silly if it's the only solution. There are other injectables but they are mainly for those who are overweight and hence insulin resistant.

Hi Daibell

Thanks for the comments, and pleased that the insulin has made a difference for you, I think what I need to do is demonstrate over a period of time to myself and my DN that with moderate carb intake 150gms per day that I can or can't be less dependant on the medication,

Metformin gave me chest pains. Weird I know but its there buried in the small print under rare side effects. The pains came on before I read the notes so it wasn't psychsomatic.
