Quite new to pumping. Still getting my head round it all.

So far I'm changing the cannula every 2-3 days and the tubing changed every 2nd cannula.

I'm just basic pumping so far, haven't got into multiwave yet. Is this fairly normal - ie, get used to carrying and standard wave pumping and checking prior to giving and 2 hours post meal? I'm also rubbish at carb counting going for the reactive approach (ie adding a correction when I check 2 hours after a meal). Got 2 young kids and work shifts so find it difficult to have the time to measure out meals for carb content. I've been using MyFitnessPal for bought pre packed food or the odd take out.

I cycle 2 or 3 times a week but no matter what I do I uust cannot get rid of my belly. I'm otherwise quite slim (82kg / 6 foot 1")

Hi, yes, entirely normal at the beginning. Get the basics right then move onto features like multiwave.

This is a trial and error feature in terms of how much to give up front, and over what period of time to give the remainder, so you need to be sure your basal rate and carb ratios are right before using it.

It's tough carb counting at the beginning, you have my sympathy. Stick with it, though, it's worth it in the end. When you actually come down to in, most people eat the same sort of things on a regular basis, so it's a little easier than it may seem on the face of it.

I change the tubing every time I change the cannula - every 2 to 3 days. I was told there is a level of degradation in the plastic which means you should change the tubing at the same time as the cannula.

Sam.

So why do some pump companies only provide 5 tubes per 10 cannulas?
The cartridge is meant to be changed every 6 days at the most so obviously the tubing is changed then. Cannulas 3 days for tethlon and 2 days for steel.
The amount of waste that goes on with needless disposal of unused insulin in the tubing is mind boggling

I think this shows, on this occasion, that we should follow the advice of the individual equipment manufacturers rather than opinions of other users.

I am provided with 1 tube per 1 cannula, all encapsulated together; hence I change them at the same time.
