Cannula coming off too easily - any advice?

Hi everyone, the past 2 nights my 11 year olds son had a cannula change both nights due to them coming off. He's had clean dry skin on insertion and we tap the cannula, and firm down the sides of the plaster as shown at hospital but they've come off twice?! Once on the top of his hip, and once on his thigh. We are now trying his tummy. We use the animas vibe with insertion II kits and want this to work (we've only had the pump 2 weeks) Anyone else have this problem or some advice?! Much appreciated :)

Hi

I always found that sets put in my tummy always stuck ok but if I try to put them in my backside or thigh, I need to put one or two pieces of tape over the adhesive bit to keep them firmly stuck down (transpore tape?) otherwise body movement usually makes them come lose. Wiping the area with an alcohol swab first might work though.......... Have you tried inserting the set so that the tube clip attaches to the set at the side instead of the bottom or top?

Hello. I am a user of the Accu check pump and its been fine except for the past two weeks, when strangely enough the cannula has come off three times. Have changed the site which is usually my tummy. Its really strange as I have been having trouble removing the cannula. Do you think there is something in the air? Another strange thing that has happened over the past two weeks is an occlusion message, its as if the pump fairly isn't working any more.

All this probably doesn't help but at least you know you are not alone.

Occlusions usually happen for a reason but until you start doing your own detective work, you wont really know what the cause is.

Have you tried opening up another batch of the sets to see if the same thing happens? If the sets are not the problem, then look at how you are positioning the pump on your body and is the tube kinking at all - is there a nice straight flow for the insulin to travel through or is the tube ending up being twisted like a plat?

Hello

I use these sets and I did have one box that didn't stick so well so worth trying a new batch just to check.

What does your son shower/wash with? Certain bath products leave a residue that can cause issues with adhesion.

Also the glue is heat activated and I find to get a really good stick I push down the middle firmly and then use my fingers inside the casing to really stick it down. Finally I wait 30-60 secs before pulling the casing off to give it a good chance of sticking.

Hope that helps :)

Since 9 Feb when I posted this, I have started using skin tac wipes from animas on my son and never had a problem since. So thanks for the advice, much appreciated :)
