Hi, I have recently changed from insulin and oral meds to Byetta, my first 2 prescriptions were filled by my hospital. I went to pick up my prescription from local chemist and they say they can only get the 5mcg pen(which they will need to order) but not the 10mcg. They even phoned other chemists in my area but had no joy. They even phoned the wholesaler who have no idea when they will get any more stock. I live in cambridgeshire. is anyone else having this problem? :(

I suspect it is because byetta is relatively new to the prescription scene.i looked it up in the BNF and both the 5mcg and the 10 mcg pens cost the same.Contact your hospital where you got the initial doses and explain the problem to them.

Hi Emmie Lula,

You can get it from any branch of Boots, Lloyds or any other of the larger pharmacies. In all cases it has to be ordered as it must be kept refrigerated and no chemist will will carry stocks of it.

Hi, it was Boots that told me they can't get hold of the 10 mcg but said they could order the 5mcg. They can't even place an order for the 10mcg, that's the problem, the suppliers don't have any either. I will speak to my Diabetes nurse on tuesday and see what they suggest.

Sounds a bit ridiculous to me. My little local chemist got mine this time within a day. Surely one of the pharmacies must be able to get it. Hope the nurse can help you.

Yes, It is possible to take a double dose of the 5 pen, although that will mean the pen will last only 15 days instead of 30.

I wonder why there is such a big difference in different parts of the country.Maybe these chemists are supplied by different companies.
