If you are a "bad" sleeper, you've tried everything. From counting sheep, hot milk and trying to empty your head. I've done the alphabet with place names, boys names, etc. You name it, I've tried it. And apart from the obvious in my heyday, I've always used the bedroom for sleeping. No mobile, tablet or other gadgets near my bed, except a mobile to use as an alarm, twice a week. Makes no difference. Did the checks 3x a night to see if it was my bs...no spike, no dip. Not that either. Some of us just don't have it...the ability to sleep the night away.
