Hello All, Some car hire companies only rent to people with a driving licence for more than three years. So not good for temporary T1 license holders? Advice on car rental?

Interesting. I must admit having been travelling for the last 40 odd years, I have never experienced this, certainly not in France, Spain, Portugal, Greece or Crete where I have hired on a number of occasions and I have never had a problem with any of the hire companies I have used.
Over 70's have 3 year licences as a norm, and these drivers don't seem to have any problem hiring
Is this perhaps just a particular company and/or country? Shop around, I guess is the solution.
Good luck!

I’ve been renting cars since I was first diagnosed in 1977. Your driving licence may be valid for 3 years but the hire company can see how many times your 3 year licence has been reissued I’ve just received my new 3 year licence. If you look at the back of your licence you will see what year you passed your driving test. So they know you have been driving longer than just 3 years.

Liquorice and aniseed (especially the tracer I have to drink in hospital before a CT scan - yuk!)
I’ve had similar experience (no problems) renting cars in U.K., Europe and USA.

I haven’t had diabetes as long, but have had epilepsy which has the same 3 year licence renewal/restrictions.

It’s for people that have held a license for longer that that period

Just because your photocard only lasts or years doesn’t change that your test pass date remains the same

Even in normal cases a photo card only lasts [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] years don’t get stopped from hiring then either

This is an old thread. Is there a reason why it has been revisited?
I do not see any additional questions this year,

I've never had hire cars.

But have had no issue with fleet loan cars or fleet work commercials.
Passed my test in late 1986.

A clean licence can go along way?

A 3 year restricted licence held over a period of decades should not reflect experience or competence to drive. Just the medical "fitness to drive.."
